Timing is everything and it was exactly how we ended up acquiring Gun Dog House Door ® from the original founder, Carl H. Altenbernd. We just so happened to stop at Carl’s on a return trip from an AKC Horseback Field Trial and before we knew it, Carl mentioned he was looking to retire after more than 25 years of developing the company. It didn't take us long to decide that we wanted to own Gun Dog House Door and continue Carl's vision of offering the finest small to extra large dog door and kennel products on the market. Before acquiring the company, we used Gun Dog House Door ® products in our kennel for more than 10 years. Do you think we would have purchased the company if we didn’t believe in Gun Dog House Door ® products!
We look forward to improving upon Carl’s legacy.
A little about ourselves?
We are an outdoorsy family of four with two active boys and obviously avid dog enthusiasts. We have an 8 run kennel and at times are owned by many dogs covering three breeds - Vizslas, English Pointers, and English Setters. We typically have a litter of these breeds and ALL of our dogs use Gun Dog House Door® doors. All of our puppies use both the Easy Dog Door ® and Heavy Duty Dog Door ® before going to their forever homes. We compete our dogs in Horseback Field Trials sanctioned by the AKC, American Field, and Amateur Field Trials Clubs of America. When not competing our dogs, we love to hunt them on family land in south west – North Dakota.
How’d Carl come up with the Gun Dog House Door ® products?
Carl designed the Gun Dog House Door® through the frustration of watching his alligator-chewing, hard driving Black Labs eat every “brand name” dog door on the market. He was persistent in designing a dog door that met all of his expectations and more. His door design was a success based as his Labs couldn't destroy or chew the frame and acrylic panel as well as kept the cold winter Minnesota weather out and his dog kennel warm.
Sincerely,
Lance and Marcie
